Important Notes for Getting a Notarization in California
How Do I Get a Document Notarized in California?
In order to have a document Notarized in California you must appear before a Notary Public being of sound mind and with an acceptable form of identification. A Notary Public's sole purpose is to inspect your identification and ensure that you are who you say you are, and that you are willing to sign the document. Please note, when preparing for a Notarization in California it is best not to sign the document before you are in the Notaries presence as it could invalidate the document.
You must have the document you wish to have Notarized in hand. Notaries are not allowed to create or suggest documents they Notarize in the State of California. If you are uncertain of what type of document you need to have Notarized then you may research further with any attorney you choose or visit LAWDEPOT.COM for the most commonly Notarized documents.
What Are Acceptable Forms of Identification in California for Notarization?
When having a document Notarized in California you must have a United States issued photo ID issued within the last 5-yrs, State issued ID Card, a United States Issued Driver's License, or a United States or Foreign Passport, Tribal ID card or an Inmate ID card. You may also use a Consular Card, a Canadian or Mexican Driver License. You may also use a Military ID for Notarization Purposes but please note it is unlawful to make copies of a Military ID (Title18, US Code Part 1, Chapter 33, Secion 701) if the receiving party of your documents also need a copy of your ID with the Notarized document. If you are not able to produce one of these acceptable forms of ID- do not worry! In the State of California you may also use two Credible Witness, over the age of 18, who possesses one of these forms of ID, and who is willing to take an oath that you are who you say you are in the presence of the Notary. Please note for Real Estate Transactions you will need to check with your lender for ID's they accept for their transactions.
Where Can I Have a Document Notarized in California?
Most banking and financial institutions in California no longer provide Notary Services to their customers for liability reasons, unless the document is actually for their institution . Select UPS Stores have Notaries on-site but can often be off duty when you need them. And, currently, FEDEX does not offer Notaries in-house. Most Notaries today are Mobile Notary Publics who travel to the client. Which is what we specialize in at Unlimited Ink Notary. Our California Notaries will travel to your home, place of work / business, hospitals, jails, care facilities, public meeting spots, restraunts, and coffee shops. We have even met signers just passing through (like Truck Drivers at Interstate exits and travelers at airport layovers).
What Types of Documents Can I Have Notarized in California?
You can literallly create any document you wish to have Notarized yourself or choose one from a resource you trust. The most commonly requested documents are Affidavits, Advanced Health Care Directives, Bank Forms, Car Titles, Deeds, Divorce Decrees or Settlements, End of Life Care Packages, Financial Power of Attorneys, Minor Consent Forms, Medical Power of Attorneys, Passport Applications, Power of Attorneys, Inmate Property Release Forms, Real Estate Documents, School Forms, Unclaimed Property Forms, and more! Please note: California Notaries are not permitted to certify copies of any documents other than a Power of Attorney and their own journal records.
